This
2011 horror, thriller, drama was certainly a treat! I absolutely loved the
classic 1992, ‘Single White Female’ and it was wonderful to see the changes and
similarities in this modern day twist of a ‘looney’ roommate. Usually I don’t
approve of filmmakers remaking classics, as I feel that if something is done
right the first time, there’s no need to mess with it; however in this instance
it showed other scenarios; the many ‘other’ scenarios that could happen in
instances with crazy roommates.
Sonny
Malhi and Nick Bylsma did a great job at adapting the original script of
‘Single White Female’ by John Lutz and Don Roos. It was surprisingly
entertaining despite its PG13 rating and was filled with many elements of bolting
gore as did the first film. Not by any chance did this film surpass the model of
‘Single White Female’; but certainly it was pleasantly predictable with all the
right punch lines and jolting excitement! J
Leighton
Meester stole the show; with a lovely spectrum of acting abilities and LA
Native Minka Kelly whom got her ‘big break’ from ‘Friday Night Lights’ played
the adorable ‘normal’ roommate well. Having ‘eye-candy’ Billy Zane whom you may
remember from ‘Titanic’, ‘The Scorpion King’, and ‘Back to the Future’ added even
more of the pleasure with his smooth operating role as ‘Professor Roberts’.
Typical
Los Angeles, fashion designers, and the sweet, new roommate just goes to tell
that ‘everything’s a show’, you never know a person, until you really get to
know them! J
